The History of Resurrection Episcopal Church
On March 1, 1966 the first worship service of Saint
David's Episcopal Church was held on this property.
The Rev. Frank Dearing was the first Vicar of
Saint David's from 1966 to 1969.
The Dearing Chapel is named for him. He
also built the first altar. The processional cross, the
patten and chalice used were from his early ministry. The
altar cross and processional cross were a gift from
Christ Church in Ponte Vedra.
The Building Committee consisted of Mr. Howard Harman, Chairman,
Mrs. Frances Paul, and Mr. Earl Raye.
The Architect was Mr. Willis Stephens, and the Builder was Mr.
William E. Cellar.
Most of the furnishings were from other churches in the Diocese.
All Saints' Parish gave the chairs.
When Our Merciful Saviour was destroyed by fire
they gave us the Lecturn, the baptismal font, the prayer desk, the
altar cross, the eucharistic candle holders, and the Bishop's
chair.
The Dedication of Saint David's took place on
the 4th Sunday after Pentecost on June 27, 1971 with The Right
Reverend E. Hamilton West, Bishop of Florida, and The Rev. E. Boyd
Coarsey, Jr., Vicar
In the early part of 1997 Saint David's and
another mission church Celebration Episcopal
Church, began to have discussions about their life and
ministry.
As a result of those discussions they decided to merge and
become one church.
The first combined service was on May 18, 1997 under our new
name: Resurrection Episcopal
Church.
